Privacy

This page describes what SiteReviews stores about visitors, reviewers, and companies, and why. It matches the way the site actually works. We do not sell these records, and we do not build advertising profiles from them.

The catalog is public on purpose. A published review, the name typed under it, the score, and the date can be read by anyone who opens the company page.

Reviews

When you publish a review we store the name you entered, the score, the text, the language of that text, and the date. If you were signed in as a reader, the review is also tied to that account so it can appear under My reviews.

We also store a hash of the IP address of the connection that sent the form. The hash is not the address itself. It is there so the same connection cannot post an unlimited run of reviews. If the review is deleted, that record goes with it.

The review form uses a check, provided by Cloudflare, to tell a person from an automatic post. That check receives the technical details Cloudflare needs to answer it. We do not add a separate analytics package to the pages.

Accounts

A reader account stores the email, a hash of the password, and the display name. We do not store the password itself. The account exists so you can see the reviews you wrote while signed in.

A company account stores the email, a hash of the password, and the company profile you save: the name, the category, the short description, the address, the phone, the public email, and the logo if you upload one. Replies you publish are stored with the review they answer and are shown on the public page.

Claiming a page is limited to someone who can prove the website. That proof is either an email address on the company domain or a meta tag you place on the homepage. The tag is a confirmation string. It is not a tracker.

Cookies

A session cookie keeps you signed in. On the business site, a language cookie remembers which language you chose for that host. These cookies are used to run the account and the language switch. They are not used to follow you around other websites.

Email

If a company turns alerts on, a letter is sent to the email of the company account when a new review matches the choice they saved: every review, or only scores of 3 and below. The letter contains the score, the name on the review, the text, and a link to the page.

We do not send a newsletter, and we do not hand the address list to anyone else for their own mailings.

How long it stays

A review stays on the page while it is published. An editor can remove a review that breaks the rules. A company page that is switched off leaves the public catalog. Account details stay while the account exists.

There is no separate contact desk on this site. If you wrote a review from a reader account, you can find it after you sign in. A business reaches its own page from the company account.
